This project marks the largest contract in the Jacksonville District’s history, valued at $2.87 billion. Thalle will oversee the construction of a 17.75-mile embankment dam and associated structures. Job Title: Drainage Foreman/ Assistant Superintendent
Salary: Competitive compensation package based on experience.
The Drainage Foreman/Assistant Superintendent is responsible for leading and supervising drainage and underground utility crews on heavy civil construction projects. This position requires a hands-on leader with extensive experience in grading, pipe installation, site layout, and construction operations. The successful candidate will oversee daily field activities, coordinate labor and equipment resources, ensure quality workmanship, and maintain a safe and productive work environment.
The Drainage Foreman / Assistant Superintendent will work closely with project management and site leadership to ensure projects are completed safely, on schedule, and in accordance with project plans and specifications.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Lead, supervise, and coordinate field crews consisting of 10–20 employees.
- Plan and direct daily drainage and underground utility construction activities.
- Perform and oversee grading, excavation, trenching, and pipe installation operations.
- Read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, profiles, and utility plans.
- Utilize pipe lasers and grade control equipment to ensure proper line and grade during installation.
- Perform field layout and verification using TOPCON equipment and related survey technologies.
- Coordinate labor, equipment, materials, and subcontractors to maintain project schedules.
- Ensure installation of storm drainage systems, culverts, manholes, catch basins, and related infrastructure according to project specifications.
- Monitor production, quality, and safety performance throughout all phases of construction.
- Conduct daily safety meetings, job hazard analyses, and toolbox talks.
- Identify and resolve field issues, conflicts, and constructability concerns.
- Coordinate with Superintendents, Project Managers, inspectors, engineers, and subcontractors.
- Maintain accurate daily reports, production tracking, and project documentation.
- Train, mentor, and develop crew members to improve productivity and safety performance.
- Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations, company policies, and project-specific safety requirements.
Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years of experience in heavy civil construction, drainage installation, underground utilities, or related infrastructure projects.
- Proven experience managing and supervising crews of 10–20 employees.
- Strong hands-on experience with grading, excavation, and drainage construction.
- Extensive knowledge of pipe installation methods, utility construction practices, and earthwork operations.
- Ability to use pipe lasers and grade control equipment.
- Experience operating and utilizing TOPCON layout and positioning equipment.
- Ability to read and interpret plans, specifications, utility profiles, and construction documents.
- Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- OSHA 30 Certification required.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to perform the essential job functions consistent safely and successfully with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards.
- Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards.
- Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
- Must be able to talk, listen and speak clearly on telephone.
