This project marks the largest contract in the Jacksonville District’s history, valued at $2.87 billion. Thalle will oversee the construction of a 17.75-mile embankment dam and associated structures. Job Title: Survey Manager

Salary:  Competitive compensation package based on experience.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

The Survey Manager will be responsible for managing survey activities from initial project control and data collection through construction layout, stakeout, and as-built documentation. This position will coordinate survey crews, review survey work for accuracy, support project teams with field and office calculations, and ensure surveying activities are completed safely, accurately, and in accordance with project plans and specifications.

• Manage and oversee all surveying activities associated with dams and other heavy civil construction projects.
• Supervise, coordinate, and provide direction to survey crews and field personnel.
• Establish and maintain project control using total stations, robotic total stations, GPS, levels, and related surveying equipment.
• Oversee construction layout, staking, grade control, and project control throughout the project lifecycle.
• Review and verify field data, survey calculations, layouts, and stakeout information for accuracy and completeness.
• Coordinate field data collection, topographical surveys, quantity/volume analysis, and as-built surveys.
• Assist with survey computations, including construction layout calculations, grade sheet computations, elevations, coordinates, and project data conversion/transformation.
• Review project plans, specifications, and survey requirements to identify potential issues and coordinate solutions with project management and field operations.
• Conduct plan and record research as necessary to support project surveying activities.
• Prepare, review, and maintain sketches, maps, reports, survey records, and as-built documentation.
• Calculate and verify elevations, depths, relative positions, property lines, grades, and other characteristics of terrain.
• Coordinate survey activities with project management, engineering, quality control, and field operations to maintain project schedules.
• Monitor survey equipment, calibration, maintenance, and availability to ensure crews have the tools necessary to perform their work.
• Assist with resolving discrepancies between survey information, design plans, and field conditions.
• Ensure surveying work complies with applicable project requirements, company standards, safety procedures, laws, regulations, and government requirements.
• Provide training, guidance, and technical support to survey personnel as needed.
• Maintain accurate survey documentation and communicate progress, issues, and required adjustments to project leadership.
• Conduct business with 100% integrity and professionalism.

Education and/or Work Experience Requirements:

• Minimum of 5 years of experience in land surveying, with significant experience in heavy civil construction.
• Prior experience leading or managing survey crews or survey operations required.
• Field surveying experience required, preferably on dams, earthwork, infrastructure, or other heavy civil projects.
• Current proficiency operating robotic total stations, GPS, levels, and related surveying equipment.
• AutoCAD experience required.
• Experience with construction layout, project control, topographic surveys, and as-built documentation.
• Strong understanding of survey calculations, elevations, grades, coordinates, and construction staking.
• Knowledge of geological description principles and methods.
• Knowledge of applicable laws, legal codes, government regulations, and surveying requirements.
• Strong oral and written communication skills.
• Strong organizational and leadership skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and coordinate survey activities with project teams.
• Ability to work independently and make sound decisions in the field.
• Ability to read and interpret construction plans, specifications, and survey information.
• Valid Driver’s License required, and candidate must be able to pass a Motor Vehicle Report background check.
