Job Title: Utility Foreman
Salary: Competitive compensation package based on experience.
Job Summary:
The Utility Foreman supervises and coordinates utility-related construction activities at water and wastewater treatment plant sites. This includes overseeing crews responsible for installing and maintaining underground utilities such as water mains, sewer lines, storm drains, and associated infrastructure. The role ensures work is completed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with project specifications and regulatory standards.
Key Responsibilities:
Field Supervision
- Direct and supervise utility crews in the installation of water, sewer, and storm systems.
- Ensure proper trenching, shoring, pipe laying, and backfilling procedures.
- Monitor work progress and quality, making adjustments as needed.
Planning & Coordination
- Interpret blueprints, utility plans, and specifications.
- Coordinate with project managers, engineers, inspectors, and subcontractors.
- Schedule daily tasks and allocate resources effectively.
Quality & Compliance
- Inspect utility installations for alignment, elevation, and slope accuracy.
- Ensure compliance with safety regulations, environmental standards, and local codes.
- Maintain accurate records of work performed, materials used, and inspections.
Communication & Reporting
- Serve as the primary point of contact for field utility operations.
- Report daily progress, issues, and changes to supervisors.
- Respond to emergency utility issues and coordinate timely resolutions.
Qualifications:
- 5+ years of experience in utility construction, with at least 2 years in a foreman or supervisory role.
- Strong knowledge of underground utility systems and water/wastewater infrastructure.
- Ability to read and interpret civil and mechanical drawings.
- Familiarity with GPS layout tools and construction management software.
- OSHA 30 certification preferred.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to operate construction vehicles and equipment.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience with municipal water treatment projects.
- Ability to lead and train crews effectively.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state, and local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards.
- Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state, and local standards.
- Must be able to lift and carry up to 25 lbs.
- Must be able to move freely about a construction site with uneven terrain, including climbing ladders and stair towers, working on wet surfaces, and navigating slopes.
- Must be able to talk, listen, and speak clearly on the telephone.
