Job Title:  Project Cost Engineer

Salary: Competitive compensation package based on experience.

This role is critical to ensuring financial accuracy, cost efficiency, and accountability across large-scale heavy civil construction projects. The Cost Engineer will oversee budget analysis, cost coding, forecasting, and project cost reporting, providing detailed insight and support to Develop, monitor, and maintain project budgets from initiation through closeout.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Establish and manage cost coding structures to ensure accurate cost tracking across all project activities.
  • Conduct weekly cost reviews and variance analyses to identify trends, risks, and opportunities for cost savings.
  • Prepare detailed cost projections and forecasts to support project planning and financial decision-making.
  • Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and accounting staff to reconcile budgets with actual expenditures.
  • Track commitments, invoices, and change orders, ensuring accurate cost allocations.
  • Generate regular cost reports for management, highlighting variances and corrective actions.
  • Maintain compliance with company policies, contract requirements, and client reporting standards.
  • Support project audits and assist with claims analysis, dispute resolution, and closeout documentation.
  • Provide cost-related insights to improve estimating, scheduling, and resource allocation processes for Project Managers and senior leadership.

Education and/or Work Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Finance, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Minimum 10 years of progressive experience in construction cost engineering, cost control, or project controls.
  • Strong understanding of project cost coding systems, financial reporting, and cost forecasting methods.
  • Proven experience with heavy civil construction projects, preferably in mining, aggregates, or infrastructure.
  • Proficiency in cost management software, project management platforms, and Microsoft Excel/Office Suite.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a project team under tight deadlines.
  • Professional certifications (CCE, CCP, or PMP) preferred.
