Job Title: Site Safety & Health Officer

Salary: Competitive compensation package.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 

The role of the Site Safety & Health Officer is to act as an integrated member of the project management team to plan, schedule, and prepare for work in such a way as to anticipate and mitigate hazards in advance. Will be designated as “competent person” and also responsible for providing safety direction and ensuring adherence to all safety regulations and programs through coaching, training, visibility, and gaining the trust of workers to build a culture of personal awareness and accountability. Responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

  • Leading daily safety meetings
  • Conducting pre-employment, post-accident, and random drug screenings.
  • Conduct new employee orientations and site orientations
  • Maintain and develop project’s accident prevention plan. 
  • Develop, submit, and implement activity hazard analyses for specific phases of work
  • Conduct inspections, identify safety problems, and implement corrective measures
  • Conduct safety training as needed and when needed
  • Monitor site conditions and respond appropriately to injuries, emergencies, or hazardous weather conditions
  • Conduct injury and accident investigations, determine contributing factors, and apply preventive measures
  • Maintain a positive working relationship with employee and client personnel
  • Act as a representative of the Thalle Safety Department
  • Conduct business with 100% integrity and professionalism

Education and/or Work Experience Requirements: 

  • Minimum of 10 years as designated full-time safety professional in construction industry with at least 5 years being in similar heavy civil construction work
  • Experience and knowledge of US Army Corp of Engineer projects a plus
  • Must meet USACE EM385-1-1 criteria for a level 5 Site Safety & Health Officer
  • Must have completed OSHA 30-hour certification 
  • Candidates with OSHA-500 certification will be given preference
  • 24 hours of formal safety training within the past 3 years
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel
  • Position requires independent professional judgment and ability to resolve most work issues without management guidance.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards.
  • Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state, and local standards.
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 25 lbs.
  • Must be able to move freely about a construction site that at times present a demanding terrain including, but not limited to, climbing of ladders and stair towers, uneven and often wet surfaces, and slopes.
  • Must be able to talk, listen and speak clearly on telephone.
