Thalle Construction Co. Inc. (“Thalle”) is seeking Asphalt Paving Operators. This position is located out of our project site in Northampton County, North Carolina.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Operate asphalt paving equipment for applying material to roadbeds.
  • Tamping dirt, gravel, and other materials.
  • Understand the grade cross slope requirements using manual or automatic settings, placing material in front of the screed, set flow, and maintain precision and appropriate speed.
  • Follow all company safety policies including taking specific action to avoid other workers, equipment, potential obstructions.
  • Operate equipment in an efficient manner and follow instructions of on-site management.
  • Follow all equipment monitoring and maintenance requirements.
  • Must be capable and willing to maintain/grease equipment.
  • Must be willing to complete manual labor when not operating equipment.
  • Conduct work with 100% integrity and professionalism.

Education and/or Work Experience Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum two (3) years construction experience.
  • Minimum 1 year of asphalt paving equipment experience verified by reference.
  • Ability to receive written or oral instructions.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationship with office and field personnel.
  • Must be committed to contributing to a culture of safety, looking out for yourself and others.

Physical Requirements:

  • Performing physical activities that require considerable use of your arms and legs and moving your whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling of materials.
  • Work long shifts with non-standard break times
  • Work in a variety of weather conditions with exposure to the elements.
  • Must have good hand-eye coordination, quick reaction times.
  • Able to work in confined or enclosed spaces
  • Able to sit for long periods of time.
  • Able to wear a hard hat, safety glasses, gloves, and safety-toed boots.
  • Able to walk moderate distances to reach work area (1/2 mile or more)
  • Able to Enter the cab of a vehicle that is 3.5 feet (or more) off the ground
  • Able to sit in the operator’s seat of equipment and safely reach all pedals, switches, levers, buttons, etc. required to safely operate the equipment (if authorized for that piece of equipment)
  • Capable of sitting in the operator’s seat of equipment and have an adequate field of vision of all instruments, gauges, warning lights, as well as an acceptable field of vision out of the windows and/or mirrors (if authorized for that piece of equipment)
  • Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards.
