Thalle Construction Co. Inc. (“Thalle”) is seeking a CDL Class A Driver. This position is located out of our Corporate Headquarters in Hillsborough, North Carolina.

Thalle, established in 1947, is a heavy civil construction company with a corporate office in Hillsborough, NC, and a regional office in Alvarado, Texas. Thalle has construction projects throughout the Southeast, Texas, and New Jersey with growth nationwide. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Compensation rate: Starting at $22.00/per hour

The CDL Class A Driver will support construction operation by transporting, loading, and unloading goods. Responsible for confirming accuracy and safety of delivery contents. Must be an efficient and accountable worker with a clean driving record. 

  • Fully understand how to operate and safely drive your assigned delivery vehicle
  • Drive vehicles with a Gross Vehicle Weight (GVW) over 26,000 lbs.
  • Pull a towed weight over 10,000 lbs.
  • Operate multiple combinations of quad axle dump truck, flatbed truck with knuckle boom, and flatbed truck with a trailer.
  • Transport pipe, embedment, construction materials, and spoils between project location and laydown facility.
  • Ensure trailer hitch is properly and securely attached to tractor unit
  • Ensure contents are properly secured inside of truck or trailer to prevent breakage or damage
  • Safely and efficiently handle and unload goods at selected destinations
  • Assist site teammates with loading and unloading processes
  • Map driving routes
  • Confirm contents of each shipment load matches the manifest document
  • Perform inspections of your vehicle prior to and following each trip
  • Check weather conditions and road reports before departure
  • Always ensure your vehicle is kept clean
  • Maintain and service vehicle as needed (refuel, change oil, tire pressure, repairs, etc.)
  • Notify managers of any major maintenance or delivery issues encountered
  • Maintain detailed driving and delivery logs
  • Track and report working hours
  • Adhere to company rules and regulations
  • Obey all applicable traffic laws and drive according to the weather/road conditions
  • Comply with ICC and DOT regulations

Education and/or Work Experience Requirements:

  • Valid Class A driver’s license required
  • 2+ years proven experience driving a related class A vehicle preferred
  • Clean driving record with no moving violations
  • Skilled and confident driver
  • Comfortable maneuvering and parking a tractor-trailer
  • Alert, focused, and detail-oriented
  • Physically and mentally fit
  • Ability to operate skid steer, telehandler is preferred.
  • Proficient using GPS and other routing systems
  • An innate sense of direction
  • Disciplined, dependable, and resourceful

Physical Requirements:

  • Performing physical activities that require considerable use of your arms and legs and moving your whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling of materials.
  • Move heavy objects (94 pounds or more) short distances (20 feet or less).
  • Move light objects (less than 94 pounds) long distances (more than 20 feet).
  • Heavy lifting with repeated stooping, carrying and bending continually over time (i.e., picks up materials and move to a different location).
  • Work long shifts with non-standard break times
  • Work in a variety of weather conditions with exposure to the elements.
  • Must have good hand-eye coordination, quick reaction times.
  • Able to sit for long periods of time
  • Able to wear a hard hat, safety glasses, gloves, and safety-toed boots.
  • Able to Enter the cab of a vehicle that is 3.5 feet (or more) off the ground
  • Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards.
  • Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs
  • Must be able to talk, listen and speak clearly on telephone
